Blogging. Really?
Blogging, really? I have been noticing lately that a lot of people I know blog. So that of course lead me to see what blogging is all about. Some of the blogs I have looked at are about home schooling, babies, children, reading preferences, general journalling, just to name a few. I have never been the type to journal. I have a really great memory and can remember events that the typical person might not, so I have never felt the inclination to write it all down. My grandmother was like that. She could remember things from the Great Depression and her days as a civil servant during World War II. I really admired that about her. So why have I decided to write a blog?
One reason would be that I feel left behind in the technology world. I used to work in a field that you had to know the latest technology, regulations, and practices to be an effective engineer. Since having children and deciding to stay at home and raise them, this motivation has changed. I now arrange my daughter's social schedule and make sure I have plenty of time to play with my son. Somewhere in there I try to cook, clean the house, garden, smock, organize pictures in the hopes of one day scrapbooking my children's childhood memories (wishful thinking?), and trying to spend time with my husband. Somehow the iPods, Blackberry's, Myspace, and everything else that will be the new thing tomorrow has swept past me and left me in a technologically black void.
Another reason I came up with would be to start chronicling my family's everyday life for friends and family. We live so far away from everyone, that the majority of our life is passed by in a blink of an eye. I notice people who live in the same town that have parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, and uncles close by. They do alot of activities together and seem to be truly involved with their families. Noticing this, I understand how our families back home feel. They do not get to visit with their grandchildren, pick them up after school and play until the evening, or even have a sleep over on Saturday night. Maybe in some small way I can share our lives with them across the 4 states that seperate us.
So I have come to belong on the blogging bandwagon. Here I am and I have no idea of what to do as witnessed by the rambling in the preceding paragraphs. I guess this type of cyber journalling, because that is what it is, will have to be explored and used to its full potential.
For everyone who just happens upon my blog, I do want to say welcome. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my thoughts and viewing my pictures. I would love to hear comments if you have experienced anything similar in your life or if you just want to chat. I think that blogging is also about connecting with people who you don't know.
