| Megan and Will 1st day of school. |
This week is the first week of school. Megan started 4th grade at Central Elementary and Will started 2nd grade at East Side Elementary. This year is the first year that both children are at different schools. Well, at least in Magnolia. I liked them at the same school last year. It was nice to now that they would have a friend to see on the playground before school and someone to stand with waiting for me to pick them up after school. Megan was nervous going to a whole new school again. Good thing that this year everyone is at a new school at the same time and she was no longer the new girl.
Megan has Mrs. Bynum for homeroom, math, science and social studies. She seemed very nice. Of course Megan said that she was very loud the first day. I suggested that she probably wanted everyone to hear her since she did seem so soft spoken, plus it is always easier to be strict at first then loosen up as the year goes along. She didn't believe me. Hmmmmm.... I am not surprised! We have trust issues.
Mrs. Burns is a first year teacher. She will be teaching Megan reading, writing, and spelling. Megan thinks she is awesome! Mrs. Burns has a great library in her classroom and said that she will lend out her books to the students to read. She is even encouraging Megan to read anything she wants. Very big plus! She brought home a book, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Curse of the Titians by Rick Riordan (one of my favorite authors). I love it when teachers encourage children to read, not make them follow the Accelerated Reader program, which I cannot stand! She still has to do it for library day. I will say, the program is good for the majority of children who do not read but it really hinders the ones who have a true love of books. Last year both my children hated library day. This is quite odd coming from two kids who will sit at the library for two hours just looking at books.

Will has Ms. Burge for 2nd grade. He was nervous on the first day too. He really loved Mrs Hagaman his first grade teacher. He did not think anyone would be like her, but I think Ms. Burge is going to be just as good or better. She seems very energetic and bubbly. Her room theme is Cat in the Hat and really cute! Will does have a couple of friends in his class from last year. He was glad to see them. I did not get many details about his day. You know Will, a boy of few words.

Oh and by the way, I really did not dress them to match. For those of you who know me, you know I love to make them match. This year it was all coincidence! Megan changed her mind twice before settling on what she wanted to wear. The shirt Will has on was the only one with new tags still on in his closet. How cool is that!
