Megan's Birthday/Christmas Smocked Dress
I love to smock. I started smocking when Megan was about 6 months old. I love the look of the dresses but just do not like to pay the expensive price when I knew I could do it myself. So I took a class from a lovely lady in town. That got me hooked. I just finished Megan's birthday/Christmas dress. So far it is my favorite dress of all. The idea started when one of my friends saw this lovely dress in Wooden Soldier catalog. She wanted to copy it and we sat down and designed her a dress. It was working up so nicely that I wanted to do one for Megan. My design is a little different though. The dress is based on Toddler Yoke Dresses I pattern, size 5, by Debbie Glenn. I made an underskirt of blue/grey silk duponi with an over skirt of brown velvet. The bodice is smocked and I added matching blue/grey beads in a diamond pattern. On the color I embroidered a grouping of flowers. For the sash I put Megan's monogram at the points. She looks so lovely in this dress. I have a matching John-John for Will. I just need to finish the shirt. When I am finished I will post some pictures.
