The Joy of Music
Megan started taking piano lessons this past July. She has an excellent music teacher which is one of our really good friends. Amanda started her out with some simple pieces played with one hand and from there she has progressed really well. At first she has a little trouble understanding that to learn to play piano you must make mistakes. She does not like to make mistakes. Our goal of learning to play the piano changed to a life lesson learning how to work, fail, and work harder to achieve a goal. A very hard lesson to learn for a little girl who's personality does not accept making mistakes.
In November Megan's teacher suggested that she play in the Christmas Classics Festival. She prepared two pieces for the Festival. Megan was a little nervous before going in, but we talked about what to expect with the judge. She was fantastic! Megan received a superior rating and a blue ribbon for her pieces! I am so proud of her! She worked so hard to get her ribbon. After the Festival Megan's playing changed. It was much easier to get her to practice. She smiles when she can sit down, look at a piece, then play it perfectly the first time. She even enjoys when we play duets together. She doesn't mind that I have to practice a little before playing the piece together.
I am posting one of her piano pieces. I took the video on my iPad. If it is really bad, I will try to post a different one later. She is still progressing really well. We will be going to a another music festival the first of March in Columbia. Wish her luck!
