Summer Adventures Begin

They are off!  Megan and Will left for Mississippi Wednesday morning at 8:45 am. My mother and I packed up her car with their stuff (they have a lot of stuff!) and they drove off with her and my father to Meridian.  Both children were truly excited to be going on a trip without mama and daddy.  In fact, they ran out to the car, buckled themselves in and were looking at books before my mother and father were outside the house!  Neither child noticed when I gave them hugs and kisses and told them to be good.  They just said "Bye!"  It is a little sad that they will not miss me, but I am glad that they went with happy hearts.  David summed it up the best, "we have self sustaining children."  In reality that is what we both wanted when each was born.  The ability to know that they are loved and we are here for them and the courage to go off on their own and have their own adventures.

So far Megan and Will have been enjoying Mama B and Poppaw's house.  They have called us twice and from the short and silly conversations that we have had I have gathered the following:
  • They have played in the backyard with with the water hose and their swimsuits on,
  • they got to ride the four-wheeler with Poppaw,
  • they went to see the Dentzel Carousel in Highland park,
  • they went to church with Mama B and met some new friends,
  • they went to visit Uncle Paul and Aunt Kylie at their house,
  • they have made a paper bag scrapbook,
  • and other miscellaneous things that are so mundane that it is not worth mentioning.
Megan and Will will be in Meridian for about 2 1/2 weeks before I come to pick them up and take them to visit their Gigi in Oxford.  We plan on being in Oxford for one week to visit and go to VBS at Gigi's church then we will make the trip back to Orangeburg.  At the end of their trip they will have been away from home for about a month.  A very long time for little people.  Hopefully, I will not get a phone call saying, "Mama, please come and pick us up."

You are probably wondering what I have been doing these past four days without children.  Well, to be honest I have been a little lost.  I visited with one of my friends who is moving back to Orangeburg on Wednesday then I started cleaning the house from top to bottom.  You know the type of cleaning that you can do when no one is demanding your attention everyone 5 minutes.  I have about four rooms left and should finish them tomorrow.  Then it is on to the yard and maybe getting a room or two painted before I leave to pick them up.  We shall see if I can accomplish my goals.  Wish me luck!
