The Crazy Bed

Yesterday Megan, Will and I drove the 9 + hour drive from South Carolina to Mississippi. It was a good drive. There was a minimum amount of fussing. We would stop around every two hours to have a break. They enjoyed having a picnic at the rest areas. Thank goodness that the weather was nice. At each stop we had a nice breeze to dissipate some of this Southern heat. At the rest stops I noticed a big change from last year. I remember that I had to watch Will constantly at the rest stops, afraid that he would run out in the parking lot to look at a truck or get snatched as he ran around trying to hide from me. This year, he helped carry the snacks up to the picnic table, staying and calmly ate, then would clean up and play with Megan. She would always make sure that they did not get too far from me as the stretched their legs. I enjoyed watching them walk around holding hands. They looked so sweet. I will miss these days when they are gone, so I will enjoy each moment as much as possible. I do wish I had my camera out though. It would have made a darling picture.

Well, you might be wondering about the crazy bed. Yes, I re-enacted the classic fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea" last evening. I got to sleep in my brother's old room (should a sister have to do that? It was really weird!) while Megan and Will shared my old room. The bed in my room is made up of an old box spring on legs (probably around 1950's) a mattress, a foam pad, and a new mattress. I had to jump up to get on top of the thing. Well, after I jumped up I discovered that the bed was super springy an was immediately propelled out of the bed and unto the floor while my mother stood laughing in the doorway. After maneuvering around for a few minutes I decided that the best course of action would be to sleep next to the wall so when I roll over I can be propelled into the wall, not the floor. I did get a good night sleep though. Leave it to my family to have a crazy bed!
