Slime
Today David and I got to do a science demonstration for Megan's class at school. The topic was on three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas). David prepared the demonstration and I was the helper. He talked about solids as in a block of wood, gases as in the air we breath, and liquids. For the liquids he demonstrated how oil cannot mix with water. Then he decided to show them that when you mix two liquids together then they can become a solid (really a semi-solid but we are dealing with second graders).
David aksed one of his friends at work for a really good recipe for slime. This is the one that we used (slime).
It was really easy that we even let the kids do the experiment. We broke them into groups of two. Each child had one part of two mixtures to mix. When it was time to mix both bowls together, then they could help each other. When the slime was made they halved it and put it in a bag to take home. Of course we did use green food coloring to give it that gross quality. Highly successful for second graders! One point to add, it was suggested to us to add the green food coloring to the glue first, then pour the glue in the water.
