Valentine's Day Treats

A few years ago I thought that it would be nice to make some small gifts for Valentine's Day for each of Megan"s friends.  I do not give gifts at Christmas because it just seems expected and children get so much that they don't seem to appreciate.  For me, Valentine's Day is a day to say "I love you and appreciate you being my friend."  Cheesy, I know but it is the only holiday that incorporates pink into the decor and pink happens to be my favorite color!  Win, win all around.  This year I decided to bake heart cookies, glaze them with pink icing and then let Megan and Will put sprinkles on them.  I used the Lemon Butter cookie recipe that is on Southern Living.com.  They turned out really well.
As you can see both Megan and Will enjoyed cutting out the heart shaped cookies.  Plus, with the new oven I can actually bake three trays at once.  That sure beats the toaster oven and three cookies at a time.  (Whole other story that I will share later.)
Here is a picture of the finished product.  Megan and Will did an excellent job on baking.
I had to take this picture.  The cookies look so pretty on my plate.
I also helped with Will's Valentine's Day party at school.  I thought that the cupcakes turned out really pretty.  I picked up everything at Wal-Mart at the first of January.  They are very fancy.  Megan was a little disappointed not to have the fancy cupcakes.  I did tell her I was helping out at her school for Easter, so she will have a chance to bring something fancy, too.

At the end of the Valentine's Day I figured out how many treats I made:
  • 15 Valentine's for Will's class at school
  • 20 Valentine's for Megan's class at school
  • 35 Valentine's bags with a cookie for both Megan and Will's friends
  • 10-15 Valentine's bags with two cookies for my friends
  • 21 cupcakes for Will's class at school
  • A special fondue Valentine's dinner for the family

Whew!!!!
