Halloween 2012
Happy Halloween! OK, so it is a few (I do use that term loosely) days after Halloween, but I wanted to share our first Halloween in Magnolia with you. This year Megan wanted to be a peacock and Will was the Green Ninja from Lego Ninjago. I was pretty excited this year because I have the time to make both of their costumes! Yeah!
Megan looked through some catalogues to find some ideas about what she wanted the costume to look like. I absolutely loved the skirt that was on the Tinkerbell costume for last springs production of Peter Pan so I decided that would look close enough to feathers. Megan wanted her tail to be able to fan out and wrap around her if she got cold but to also swish and sway as she walked, like a real peacock. She also wanted her face painted, so here is my first attempt at face painting. I think I did pretty well. She loved it and that is what counts.
I found the fluffy feathers at Hobby Lobby and the peacock feathers in the Christmas section at Wal-Mart. I thought that they put Christmas stuff out too early in Orangeburg. Here Christmas went up about the first or second week in October. Whatever happened to decorations going up around Thanksgiving? As you can see Megan was getting into her part. She loved swishing her tail.
Here is Will as the Green Ninja. Will loves dragons so we had to have a really cool dragon on the front and back of the costume. I looked all over the Internet for basic dragon drawings that you could fuse onto the back of a piece of fabric. I found awesome art concepts, but nothing quite right. This dragon I ended up drawing using a couple of different designs from tattoo artists. It ended up looking pretty cool.
He had to have a hood and he also wanted a pocket for his nun chucks to slip into on the back of the costume. He said so it would be easier to grab and attack someone.
Here the peacock is being attacked by the Green Ninja! Someone help her, please!
So this year was the first year that we, (including me!) have ever walked within our neighborhood and trick-or-treated door to door. It was awesome! The weather was really nice and pleasant. We were able to meet several neighbors along the way. The neighbor who lives across the street even stopped her SUV and let Megan and Will get a piece of candy out of her Halloween cauldron. She was dressed as a scary witch. I guess she was off to one of the area church's fall festival. She was really nice and both children thought it was a lot of fun.
We live right down the road from some of our friends that moved from Orangeburg. Of course we had to stop and visit. Their little boy was dressed up as a cute caveman. He had just woken up from a nap when we got there. I believe that Sarah and James enjoyed our visit.
I guess I need to make a side note too. Since Halloween was on a Wednesday this year the town decided to keep trick-or-treating on Wednesday night, which is a church night. We also had Megan's piano lesson between 5-5:30 pm then bible class started at 7:00 pm. I was quite proud that I had both children ready and dressed by 4:50 pm to go to Megan's piano lesson. Her teacher was really nice and said that she could dress in her costume as long as her hands were free to play. We came home and ate supper, which was a pot of soup that I had already cooked, and then were off in search of candy by 6:00pm. We finished the rounds by 6:40, came home and changed clothes, then were off to bible study. I call that impressive time management!
